Sony didn’t just make CRTs… they make every retro gamer argue about them. They are the sole reason most people even have an option about CRTs in the first place.
Late 80s into the 2000s, Sony was the name. If you had “TRINITRON” on the front of your living room TV you knew you had quality. Sony changed the CRT rules. BUT there is a misconception. “Sony is the best.” You hear it everywhere, especially Marketplace, Reddit, and especially YouTube.
It's almost true, I have many Trinitrons. Trinitron tubes use an aperture grille instead of a shadow mask, which gives you that signature look. Brighter image, cleaner lines, colors that pop, and it's a retro gamers dream! Feed a good Sony a clean RGB or component signal and it will have you on the same bandwagon. It is important to recognize that TRINITRON is not a magical “this is a good tube” catchall. They have hits and they have seriously bad misses.
Sony tubes are the king for a reason…. Just don't sleep on all the other tubes out there because some will blow your mind!
