Orion TV1334

2002

High-end CRT design was basically done evolving and companies weren’t innovating at the low end.. they were cost-reducing existing designs.

This little Orion isn't BAD by any means… She is just an example of the times.

Composite and RF on a little 13inch tube is all you need to be happy playing NES… but in my collection of heavy hitters I have to admit I don't think I will find myself holding on to her in my collection for very long.

Lets get a bit technical; This little TV has NO comb filter, fake sharpening or any weird late-era digital junk. This is a PURE RAW COMPOSITE NTSC signal straight to an ORION shadowmask tube. I have to admit…. Tubes like this are the ULTIMATE way to play NES. Super Mario Bros, The legend of Zelda, Duck hunt, are all perfect on these types of tubes.

As an RGB SNES addict I just can't.

This is definitely a low tier budget tube. Geometry is never going to be perfect, composite only, and audio is a joke with one mono speaker. If you're chasing a specific aesthetic or a particular experience with VHS movies and the original NES this is certainly a great choice but the upgrade path is very…. Poor. Although, I've heard these are RGB moddable!

I did have to slip a little bit of Deoxit onto the contacts for the front buttons to get them working properly. They seem to work great now and not intermittent like before.

“Why are the links to the service manual taking me to Toshiba sets?” It’s part of a shared OEM chassis ecosystem that overlaps with Toshiba designs. These manuals are essentially the same as this ORION. Same IC chips. Same board layouts. Same signal paths. Same power specs. Same tube families.
