PVMs (Professional Video Monitors)
PVMs offer better picture quality, durability, and input options than most consumer televisions. Studio monitors used for editing, production, and checking signal. Medical monitors for imaging and surgeries where perfection was required. Sharper, cleaner, and way more accurate than consumer TVs. Built to show the signal properly and not to look pretty. Overkill for most people back then… now every retro gaming lover wants one. A professional CRT monitor used in studios, hospitals, production equipment, and other commercial settings.
BVMs (Broadcast Video Monitors)
Sony’s highest-end professional CRT monitors, built for critical broadcast mastering and quality control. BVMs feature exceptional image accuracy, extensive calibration controls, and were used where absolute picture precision was required before content went on the air. A significant number of BVMs are Multiformat allowing anything from 240p all the way to 1080i. A multiformat monitor can display more than one video standard or scan rate. Some support only multiple standard-definition formats (such as 240p/480i NTSC and 576i PAL), while true multiformat models can also display high-definition signals like 480p, 720p, and 1080i. This versatility is one of the features that makes many professional BVMs so desirable.
